Baby Giraffe

We're asking you to share your favourite way to add ribbon to your projects this week at As You Like It Challenge, and I love to use ribbons so this is a fabulous challenge for me!  I like using 2 papers on my cards and use a strip of satin ribbon to cover the join, as well as add a double bow in the same ribbon.  The double bows are really easy to make once you get the hang of them, and I think they look really special.

Water-coloured on Langton Watercolour paper with Ranger Distress Ink Reinkers:

  • Giraffe: Antique Linen, Brushed Corduroy, Vintage Photo, Gathered Twigs
  • Sky: Tumbled Glass
  • Present: Stormy Sky, Faded Jeans

I have loved this image since it was released and missed out on it originally, but it's come back into stock at Dies to Die For along with a few other golden oldies!

Summer Bunnies

At As You Like It Challenge we're asking whether you prefer Spring or Summer - Summer is my favourite season; the long light days, the warmth of the sun and the garden looking its best (well, the best it is ever going to look!).  I've made a summery themed oversized gift tag for today's creation, featuring some cute LOTV bunnies sitting on a toadstool, and added lots of flowers, both on the papers and the embellishments.

A well used brush is a good thing

I love this little meecie holding his paintbrush. He's a lot dinkier than I thought he was going to be, and the sentiment text is miniscule, but he's perfect for a little note card.  I've doodled around the edge of my image panel and framed him with some plaid papers in matching colours.  For a bit of added interest, I've rounded the corners of my card.

Bella Bear Bee

I really love making these oversized gift tags. They're made using a layered die from Crealies and are fabulous for adding to a gift, or making into a tri-fold card too. I've used Bella Bear Bee Costume along with some papers from Lady Bug Love Paper Heaven 2 and Lady Bug Love Paper Heaven 3.  I've stenciled in some background using Distressed Trellis and Antique Linen ink.

LOTV on The Craft Store (Hochanda)

You may have seen on Facebook that LOTV are going to be on The Craft Store on Wednesday at 9am and 1pm (although you can watch it on catch-up via their website afterwards).  I've made a few samples that you may see on the telly, including today's card featuring Lick Of Paint.  I'm really hoping I get to see it on TV!

I've kept the design very simple, and have used this layout before, including the text, which is typed and printed in very pale grey, and then I ink over it with the same colour as I've used for my image, including the little dribbles.

The font is a freebie called 'Take Warning' but you could use any font you like and add random dribbles in the same way by flicking lines down from the lettering.  I like how the wording looks with his messy painting style (I hope he's going to clear up after himself as I'm not sure he'll get much repeat business or customer recommendations if he leaves all that paint on the floor)

Update: Here is my little laddie on the TV!!!!!

Easter Teddy

My final Easter card for this year isn't very traditional, but I'm hoping it is a little more masculine as it's for my brother-in-law, so I've left out the embelishments!  At As You Like It Challenge today we're asking if you prefer stencils or embossing.  Although I do love the effect created by embossing folders, I don't seem to use the few that I have very often, but I do like creating background scenes for my images, which is easy to do with a stencil.

Water-coloured on Langton Watercolour paper with Ranger Distress Ink Reinkers:

Cuddles

Today's Polkadoodles Digi Choosday card has a gate-fold flap on the front which opens to reveal a little hidden message. The flaps can be tucked under the flower petals on the front so they remain in place until they're opened.  I've used Friendly Cuddles for my main image, papers from the Eden Paper Heaven 1 set and a sentiment from the Winnie Sunshine Delights sentiment bundle.

You're Amazing

I'm on a mini-mission to make some 'just because' cards, not for a specific occasion, like birthday, but just to tell someone I'm thinking of them and am popping into their thoughts to say 'Hi'.  This one uses a sweet image that I've not inked up for a while, so I have watercoloured it and kept the layout simple with a stamped/die cut combo sentiment and little layering.

Easter Bunny

We're looking for Springtime animals this week at As You Like It Challenge.  Although I love little lambs bouncing around in the fields, it's got to be the cute and fluffy bunny for my favourite Springtime animal. I love their cute floppy ears, especially this sweet little Thumper clutching his chocolate egg from Lili of the Valley.

Easter Bunny Trio

For today's new launch at Lili of the Valley I've made a trio of bouncing bunny Easter cards.

Each card is shaped like an Easter Egg and I've decorated them to make a set, althouh in reality they're going to be sent to different people, so no-one other than me (and you!) will know that!

I'm not sure that I can pick a favourite. I love little bunnies anyway, but these are really sweet.  I've used sentiments from the Spring Mix set and a sunshine die to finish them off.

Hello Foxy

I've been playing with my lovely foxies again today, but this time in a semi-no-lines version.

At As You Like It Challenge we're asking if you prefer to fussy cut, die cut or use a scan 'n' cut type machine to cut your images.  When I looked at my card history, I realised that I very very rarely cut out my images. I only have a few matching dies, I'm not great at fussy cutting (not helped by watercolour card being quite thick) and I've tried and failed to use the pix-scan option on my Silhouette.  However, what I do very often is to stamp my image onto a post-it note and fussy cut that to use as a mask which I then lay over the image and use blending brushes to ink a background.  Here's my image mid-way through this. I usually do this before I colour the image because I add some more tone and texture to the grass when I colour.

  • Fur: Antique Linen, Tea Dye, Brushed Corduroy, Vintage Photo, Tattered Rose

Bella Bear

Christmas is my favourite excuse to make a card. I love all the options for embelishments (a good excuse for some snow speckles or even a pot of glitter. I also love Christmas as a time of year, usually a proper week off work and some time to relax!  Come and join us at As You Like It Challenge to let us know your favourite reason to make a card this week.

Hedgehog Reveal Card

For my Digi Choosday card this week I've created a fold-out envelope style card featuring Earlie Hedgehog Dandilion on the front, and Hedgehog Balloon on the inside. The front and inside is decorated with Lily Bug Love Heaven 2 Papers and a sentiment from Winnie Sugar Sprinkles Sentiment Quotes.  My images are watercoloured using DI Reinkers and I followed a tutorial to create the card base.

Here's the inside once it's opened up:

Foxy Hearts

For Hubby's Valentines Day card this year I made a scalloped stepper (which was harder than I'd anticipated to get those pesky folds in the right place) and decorated it with my adorably cute CC Designs Foxes.  The heart dies are pieces from a larger die. I've doodled stitching around each of the panels for a bit of added interest as I've kept the embelishments light.

Tilda Daisy

As You Like It Challenge are running a poll to know what type of stamps are more popular: digi, rubber or clear.

Some of my favourite brands are clear stamps, and there is a huge benefit when creating scenes because you can see through the clear stamp in order to line up the next character.  However, I frequently have problems with clear stamps being temperamental in stamping the whole image. For example, sometimes they stick to the card when stamping, and even though I use my Stmaping Platform, the stickiness can slightly move the card (despite it being held down by the strong magnets), which means that I can't re-ink the stamp a second time trying to fill in any missing parts of the image.

I love the convenience of digis, especially to store and catalogue them for browsing when choosing what I'm going to use.  It's also great when you need an image to be able to buy it and use it within minutes (no waiting for shipping), but I've only been able to use laser printers for digis, because the ink in inkjet printers are generally water soluble, so they don't work with watercolour, even if the image is left to set overnight or with heat.  Laser printers are more expensive to replenish, and mine is currently down to 12% ink, so I'm preparing myself for an expensive purchase of toner soon. I've been using the printer a bit for work purposes, but predominatly it's used for crafting, so the benefit of digis being cheaper than physical stamps is completely reversed if I have to spend £200 just on new toner!

So although I have quite a lot of clear and digi stamps, my favourite is rubber. Although generally they're more expensive, I personally find that they produce a more consistently crisp stamped image.  It's therefore fortunate that some of my favourite brands are manufactured in this medium, such as Magnolia Tilda and Purple Onion Designs.

Mother's Day Zig-Zag Fold Card

I saw a fabulous tag-pocket card over on Marlies' blog and decided to have a go. I really love fancy-fold cardbases and also love my huge tag dies.  For my Digi Choosday card today, I folded a rectangle into 4 panels to form the cardbase, and added little pockets at the bottom of each panel to pop in a decorated tag.  I used Polkadoodles Bella Bear Gift, Bella Bear Bouquet and Bella Bear Ladybug and a Mother's Day sentiment from the Winnie Sugar Sprinkles bundle for the fourth tag.  The tags can be removed to write on the reverse, or use as bookmarks or gift tags afterwards. The papers are from Lily Bug Love Paper Heaven 3 bundle.
